A Family Affair

Long before members of the Battimelli family brought their enhancements and additions to Artie’s Bar and Grill, this popular establishment, built in the style of the classic American roadhouse, was a favorite gathering spot for many years among those that resided in the neighboring towns. Once surrounded by only fields and farms, this friendly outpost sat alongside the quiet country road that connected the Delaware River community of Frenchtown to the county seat of Flemington. Back then, the topic of conversation at the bar might touch upon the price of corn, the size of catfish, or the carrying-ons at the courthouse.

During the 1980s and 90s, the area experienced new growth and development as tourists from both New York and Philadelphia began to embrace the rural charm and character of what was then a mostly undiscovered part of New Jersey. And while very few of the urban newcomers ever ventured into the bar, which during that period of time operated under the name of “Heinz & Rita’s”, a north London lad by the name of Roderick David “Rod” Stewart was known to stop by on occasion to shoot a game of pool prior to his romantic rendezvous on the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware.

Today, Artie’s Bar and Grill retains much of the appeal that brought generations of loyal customers to its doors. But there is also a nod to the changing tastes of the times. A wide range of craft beers are available by the bottle and on draft both inside and outside at our newly opened River Beach Bar. And because our family brings a vast amount of culinary skills and hospitality experience to the restaurant, we are able to offer a creative and diverse menu that features those time-honored American favorites along with our very own Italian inspired house specialties.

From our family and friends to yours we extend the warmest of welcomes.
